History of South MacArthur
posted by mkn on 07/18/2006
Church of Christ worship services were being held in this area as early as 1890. In 1903, a sanctuary was completed on land donated by the town's founders, and the congregation adopted the name, "South Delaware Church of Christ." In 1948, some members of the South Delaware Church of Christ began the Eastside Church of Christ. The two congregations merged in 1972 and adopted the present name. South MacArthur Church of Christ has continued to uphold the ideals and traditions of its founders, with emphasis on Christian education, evangelism, and community service.

Expectations of Members

From the Elders ~
As spiritual leaders, we believe the Scriptures reveal certain expectations God has for his children as we follow Christ and live in his covenant community. For this reason, and in light of our vision and mission, we pray that each member of the South MacArthur Church will grow in grace in the following areas:

COMMUNITY
  • Participating in the corporate worship assembly and engage consistently in a small group that encourages caring relationships.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH
  • Pursuing Christ-like character by participating both collectively and individually in worship, bible study, and prayer.

SERVICE
  • Sharing in the ministry of the body of Christ by discovering, developing and using our spiritual gifts and abilities to the glory of God.

MISSION
  • Calling people to salvation in Christ and to discipleship in the contexts of family, work, and neighborhood through conversation, friendship and shared life.
  • Participating in sharing the gospel locally, regionally and internationally.
As those entrusted with the spiritual oversight we pledge to lead by example, encourage, and equip the members of the South MacArthur congregation as we strive to meet these expectations.

We Believe
posted by gdk on 08/21/2006
The South MacArthur Church of Christ is a covenant community of believers sharing in the love of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
[Exodus 20.1-21; 24.1-8; Luke 22.14-27; 2 Corinthians 13.14]

WE BELIEVE in one God-the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit-existing in eternal and perfect fellowship and sharing together in the work of creation and redemption.
[Romans 8.1-27; John 1.1-18; Genesis 1.1-2; Colossians 1.15-20]

WE BELIEVE that God saves us from the power of sin and death through His Son Jesus Christ, who left heaven, became human, died on the cross, and was raised from the dead.
[Philippians 2.5-11; Luke 1.26-38; 2.1-7; Mark 14-15; Matthew 28.1-20]

WE BELIEVE that salvation, restoration to God's covenant community, is available by faith in Christ to all who renounce sin, embrace the way of the cross, and are immersed in water and the Spirit.
[Acts 2.36-47; John 3.5-8; Romans 6; Mark 10.34-38; 1Peter 3:21]

WE BELIEVE that God empowers us to live as His servants in the world through His Holy Spirit who indwells each believer, unites believers in community, and forms them in the image of Christ. [Acts 2; 1 Corinthians 12; 2 Corinthians 3]

WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the inspired word of God and the final authority in our life together as a community of faith.
[2 Timothy 3.14-17; 2 Peter 1.12-21]

WE BELIEVE that as members of God's covenant community we are to reflect His holiness in our lives, share in His love and care for all human beings, build bridges across barriers of language, culture, faith, race, and ethnicity, and seek to live together in ways that manifest His grace, peace, and justice.
[Ephesians 4-5; Matthew 25.31-46; James 2.1-13; Romans 12.9-21]

WE BELIEVE in the glorious return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the complete overthrow of every evil, the re-creation of heaven and earth, and the final age of eternal and blessed fellowship of God and His people.
[1 Thessalonians 4.13-18; Revelation 20.7-15; 21.1-8; 22.1-5]
